RESOLUTION No. 1.47 go
WHEREAS, March of 1990 is the nation's fourth annual Women's
History Month; and
WHEREAS, the theme of this year's Women's History Month,
"Courageous Voices Echoing In our Lives" celebrates both the
contributions of heroines and the lives of women from all walks of
life; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women has
joined forces with the University of Hawaii at Hilo Committee on
Status of Women to present special events throughout the month at
the University of Hawaii at Hilo; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women has
involved students islandwide from Grades 5 through 12 in its "Real
Women" Creative Writing Competition and the winning essays will be
displayed at the University of Hawaii at Hilo library; and
WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii at Hilo Committee on the
Status of Women's action arm, Ohana '0 wahine, has scheduled
workshops and speakers on the theme of "Women in Motion" throughout
the month, including a keynote address on the Creation of the
Patriarchy by Dr. Gerda Lerner, Senior Distinguished Research
Professor, University of Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, who
is known as the grande dame of Women's History.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognizes the courage and countless contributions of
women throughout the United States and especially on the Island of
Hawaii in their commemoration of March 1990 as Women's History Month.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to
Ms. Carol A. Factora, Chairperson, Hawaii County Committee on the
Status of Women; Dr. Trina Nahm-Mijo, Chairperson, University of
Hawaii at Hilo Committee on the Status of Women; and Ms. Lori
Adolewski, President, Ohana '0 Wahine; along with the Council's
wishes for success and recognition deserving of their worthy
contributions.

Re: Referral Waiver for Resolution 147-90.
Pursuant to Section 1(d) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of
the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is
submitted in regards to Resolution No. 147-90, relating to
Woman's Ha.story Month, waiving said referral from the Committee
on Human Services and Recreation in order that appropriate
action can be taken by the Council.
