WHEREAS, the Hilo Jaycees was first organized on September 15,
1939 and became officially affiliated with the U. S. Jaycees on
February 29, 1940; and
WHEREAS, after "Fifty Years of Service to Humanity" the
organization will be commemorating its 50th anniversary on March 3,
1990; and
WHEREAS, the Hilo Jaycees has, throughout the years, been true
to the basic objective of the organization which is to enable its
members and families to develop and grow by providing opportunities
for self-improvement through individual and community services; and
WHEREAS, the contributions which former Hilo Jaycees members
(Roosters) have made are evident in the very prominent and positive
imprints which they have left in our County and State; and
WHEREAS, the Hilo Jaycees have also contributed to the
community in more tangible ways through its many community projects,
such as: the Annual Hawaii County Fair; Junior Miss Scholarship
Program; construction of the Waiakea butler restroom; the Kalakaua
Park Cleanup Program; the Anti-Graffiti Busters Campaign; the
Keikiland park project; the soccer fenceline project; the "Just Say
No" anti-drug campaign program; the Vietnam and Korean Conflict
Memorial; and construction of the Civic Butler Building; and
WHEREAS, the Hilo Jaycees has been a major moving force in
promoting jayceeism throughout the Big Island by establishing and/or
extending Jaycees chapters in Kona, Hamakua, Pahala, Waimea and Hilo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that we extend our warmest congratulations to the Hilo Jaycees
as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of
Hawaii publicly acknowledge with appreciation the many contributions
which present and former Hilo Jaycees members have made to the
Big Island, true to the Jaycees creed which states, in part, "service
to humanity is the best work of life."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to
Miles Nakatsu, President of the Hilo Jaycees, and to Myles Nambu,
President of the Hawaii Jaycees.

Re: Hilo Jaycees 50th Anniversary
Pursuant to Section 1(d) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of
the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is
submitted in regards to Resolution 150 ~ relating to the Hilo
Jaycees 50th Anniversary, waiving said referral from the
Committee on Human Services and Recreation, in order that
appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents f the referral, it is deemed
advisable that such waiver granted.
