RESOLUTION NO. ~~8 s0
WHEREAS, Bernard Kanenaualii Akana, esteemed Mayor of the
County of Hawaii, passed away on April 12, 1990 at the age
of 70; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Bernard Akana assumed his post in
December 1988 with the vision of creating a government that
truly served and responded to the needs of its people; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Akana easily fulfilled his pbjective of
creating a "People's Government" with his caring and nurturing
ways; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Akana embodied the essence of a "public
servant", never ceasing to give untiringly and unselfishly of
his time and energy; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Akana will certainly be missed by all, but
his ideals, perseverance, and humble stature will long be
remembered.
NOW, .THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its fondest Aloha and deepest
sympathy to Mrs. Ina Akana and members of the Akana family.
BE IT FURTIIER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit true copies of this resolution to
Mrs. Ina Akana and the Mayor's children Bernard Akana Jr.,
Witt Akana, Lola Kohler, and Kathleen Watanabe.
