RESOLUTION No. 204 30
P;HEREAS, the island of Hawaii is blessed with an abundance of
natural beauty; and
WHEREAS, we advertise extensively this beauty to attract
visitors to our island; and
WHEREAS, a clean environment contributes to a higher quality of
life for everyone; ar.9
WHEREAS, there are some among us who do not appear to realize
that cigarette butts, paper, disposable diagers, cans and bottles,
and other trash, if not properly cleaned ug, help to destroy this
beauty and degrade our quality of life; and
WHEREAS, this kind of waste is found along our highways, in our
parks, on the beaches and shoreline, on public and private property;
and
WHEREAS, it will take the cooper~.tion of all of our people to
solve the litter problem; an3
WHEREAS, the press, radio and television working together with
government and the community should be able to stimulate full and
free discussion of ideas to solve this problem and encourage
cooperation.
NOW, TIiEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
:{AWAIT that we request the assistance of the media, press, radio,
and television, and the county administration to co-sponsor a public
Litter Conference at which we can learn how other communities solve
their litter problems and hopefully reach a consensus on a program
to be undertaken in our County.
BF, IT FCJRTHER RESOLVED that the theme of this conference be "A
CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL HAWAII ISLADID."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Mayor of the County of Hawaii and to all media on this island,
press, radio and television.
