HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 224 Draft 01 1988-1992COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Council finds that green waste, or yard waste, is unnecessarily occupying 25 - 30 percent of valuable space at the County landfills; and WHEREAS, the County landfills are reaching its capacity at a much more rapid rate than previously estimated; and WHEREAS, yard waste can he turned into compost thereby decreasing the incoming waste stream at the County landfills; and WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation deposit a large amount of yard waste into the landfills from the trimmings of the parks and highways. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CO[JNTY OF HAWAII that it requests the Chief Engineer to set aside areas at the County landfills to allow for uncontaminated yard waste for composting. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation be requested to separate their yard waste and take it to the designated yard waste area at the County landfill. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to Mr. Bruce McClure, Chief Engineer, Department of Public Works and to Mr. George Yoshida, Director, Department of Parks and Recreation.
