WHEREAS, in 1983 Kamehameha Investment Corporation provided
0,693 acre of land to the County of Hawaii for the purpose of
huilding a fire station to service the Keauhou Resort Community; and
WHEREAS, a condition to the conveyance was that should the
County fail to construct said facility within fifteen years from the
date of the deed the property would then revert to Kamehameha
Investment Corporation; and
WHEREAS, although the County has managed to provide for the
equipment and personnel to service the Keauhou station, it has not
been able to provide the required r_onstruction funds; and
WHEREAS, Kamehameha investment Corporation has proposed to the
County that it is willing to undertake the task of raising the
necessary funds to design and construct a fire and rescue station on
the 0.693 acre parcel; and
WHEREAS, upon completion of the facility, Kamehameha Investment
Corporation will turn it over to the County to operate a fire and
rescue station.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it agrees that Kamehameha Investment Corporation's offer
to build the Keauhou Fire and Rescue Station and to eventually turn
it over to the County to operate is the most expeditious manner_ by
which fire and rescue services can be provided to the Keauhou Resort
Community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in light of considerations being
provided and received by the parties it is imperative that an
agreement be entered between the parties so as to allow for an early
commencement of the project.
RE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it requests Mayor Larry Tanimoto to
work with the Kamehameha Investment Corporation for an immediate
resolve to the issues in the agreement document.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the county of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Larry Tanimoto,
Mayor of the County of Hawaii and to Mr. Robert Herkes, Kamehameha
Investment Corporation.
