RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii, in its quest to maintain a viable local.
economy, views with concern any unfavorable factors affecting the local employment
activity; and
Tn'r-IEREAS, GTF. Hawaiian Telephone Company is proposing to initiate consolidation
of all its neighbor island plant service centers in Honolulu; and
WHEREAS, the proposed consolidation appears to erode the utility company's
commitment to quality customer service by eliminating the Plant Service Center in
Hawaii County; and
WHEREAS, the shutdown of the local Plant Service Center will have an impact on
more than 10 GTE Hawaiian Telephone Company personnel on this island.
NOW, THF~E2EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUDTCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that GTE
Hawaiian Telephone Company is requested to earnestly consider retention of the
Hawaii County Plant Service Center in light of the negative impacts the
consolidation effort would have on its Hawaii County employees and customers.
BF, IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be directed to
transmit a copy of this resolution to Mr. Lee Toule, President, GTE Hawaiian
Telephone Company; Mr. Yukio Naito, Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission;
the Honorable Senator Richard Matsuura, chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural
Resources Committee; a.nd the Honorable Representative Mazie Hirono, Chair of the
House Consumer Protection and Commerce Committee.
