RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, hula is a vital and beautiful element of native
Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS, those who dedicate their lives to teaching and
perpetuating the art of hula are truly worthy of recognition and
gratitude; and
WHEREP.S, Tita Beamer Solomon has served the community through
the performance and teaching of hula chants and folklore for over
forty years; and
P?HEREAS, Tita Beamer Solomon's philosophy to "love the land and
respect nature" is expressed and perpetuated by her students who
have become hula teachers; and
WHEREAS, Tita Beamer Solomon has brought beauty to the lives of
Hawaii's people through her talent and teaching; and
WHEREAS, Tita Beamer Solomon received a 1990 Aloha Week award.
NOTni, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognize and commend Tita Beamer Solomon for
teaching and perpetuating the art of hula.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a true copy of this resolution to Tita Beamer Solomon.

Your Committee on Human Services and Recreation to which was referred
Resolution No. 254-90, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 254-90 is to recognize and commend Tita
Beamer Solomon for teaching and perpetuating the art of hula.
Your Committee understands that Tita Beamer Solomon, who has
performed and taught hula for over forty years, recently received an
Aloha Week award.
Your Committee finds that the perpetuation of Hawaiian culture
through the performance and teaching of hula, Hawaiian music chants
and folklore, provides a substantial public benefit. Your Committee
further finds that Tita Beamer Solomon's dedication to teaching and
perpetuating the art of hula is commendable.
Your Committee concurred with the Chairwoman's recommendation to
approve Resolution No. 254-90.
Your Committee on Human Services and Recreation is in accord with the
purpose of Resolution No. 254-90 and recoq~mends its adoption by the
County Council. ~~
