Arakaki, Ex-Officio Member DATE: Apri122, 1998 (Wednesday) PLACE: Seven Seas Luau House TIME: 4:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON ITEM ON THE AGENDA Comm. 745. 07: RECOMMENDED FUNDING OF NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, FY98-99 From HS&EDC Chair John Ray, dated Apri113, 1998, transmitting the recommendations of the Human Services Non-Profit Grant Review Committee for funding ofnon-profit agencies in Hawaii County for fiscal yeaz 1998-99. The committee was composed of two legislative auditor assistants, his aide, and himself, who reviewed all the applications and prepazed written summaries of grant submittals for the Council's review and conducted a week- long site visit inspection and interview of each applicant organization. The Committee received applications totaling nearly $1.5 million, well in excess of the county's $900,000 annual appropriation and is pleased to apportion its funding recommendations to substantially sustain funding for critical human services supplied by a broad spectrum of providers in the County. HS&EDC-22 Page 2 Apri122, 1998 The Committee recommends funding support for six new programs addressing disaster response services (American Red Cross); family violence and spouse abuse (Alternatives to Violence); disabled and infirmed elderly care (Hilo Adult Day Care); death and bereavement (Hospice of Hilo); and start-up help for a new substance abuse recovery for women (Rose House.)
