RESOLUTION No. ~%_ ? %1_
WHEREAS, the Governor's Advisory Committee on Litter Control is
sponsoring the 12th annual Statewide Recycling Campaign during the
month of February 1991; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the County of Hawaii has proclaimed the
month of February 1991 as Recycling Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, Recycle Hawaii and the Outdoor Circle are assisting the
State Litter Control Office in observing Recycling Awareness Month
through educational programs on recycling in the schools islandwide;
and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii recognizes the importance of
recycling to preserve our natural resources and to minimize the
generation of solid waste; and
WHEREAS, the many hardworking volunteers of Recycle Hawaii and the
Outdoor Circle have unselfishly given their time, effort and talents
to educate the public and to save valuable resources.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it commends Recycle Hawaii and the Outdoor Circle for
their efforts to promote recycling and extends congratulations and
best wishes to them during the observation of Recycling Awareness
Month.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii
asks the people of the Island of Hawaii to join in the recycling
efforts being held at the County landfills and transfer stations.
BE Ii FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to Ms. Suzy Hamilton, Acting
Director, Recycle Hawaii East; Ms. Andrea Alderson, Director, Recycle
Hawaii West; Ms. Kathryn Martin, President, Kona Outdoor Circle; and
Ms. Carly Shepard, President, Waimea Outdoor Circle.

Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Resolution
No. 285-91, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 285-91 is to commend Recyle Hawaii and
the Outdoor Circle for their promotion of recycling and to eatend
congratulations and best wishes to them during the observation of
Recycling Awareness Month in February.
Your Committee finds that recycling is important to preserve our
natural resources and to minimize the generation of solid waste.
Your Committee further finds that the efforts of the volunteers of
Recycle Hawaii and the Outdoor Circle to educate the public and to
divert recyclable materials from the County landfills are noteworthy.
Your Committee concurred with the Chair's recommendation to approve
Resolution No. 285-91.
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the purpose of
Resolution No. 285-91 and recommends its~d~ption by the County
Council.
