RESOLUTION No. 326 ~I
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.4(c) states that the Mayor has
the power to "Create positions...for which appropriations have been
made by the council..."; and
WHEREAS, a Fire Fighter position is a specialized position in
which a person must have training and education before qualifying
for it; and
WHEREAS, a Fire Fighter Recruit position is the entry level
class in the firefighting series; and
WHEREAS, a Fire Fighter Recruit attends training classes and
receives instructions in the theories, techniques, methods and
procedures used in firefighting and rescue work for one year; and
WHEREAS, a Fire Fighter Recruit's salary is paid by an already
existing vacant position which is funded within the Fire Department;
and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department presently has 15 Fire Fighter
Recruit SR-14 positions; and
WHEREAS, recruit classes are held twice and sometimes even three
times a year, making the 15 Fire Fighter Recruit positions
insufficient; and
WHEREAS, increasing the number of Fire Fighter Recruit positions
by 25 would be more in line with the needs of the Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that 25 more Fire Fighter Recruit SR-14 positions be created.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds are available in the regular
salaries and wages account of the Fire Protection Division of the
Fire Department.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
transmitted to the Departments of Fire, Civil Service and Finance.
