RESOLUTION No. 3a2 3s
WHEREAS, Masami "Naga" Nagasako, a diesel mechanic passed away on
April 11, 1991, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, Masami Nagasako, a wartime evacuee in 1942, found employment in
Chicago and furthered his education in the diesel engine repair trade; and
WHEREAS, Masami Nagasako, after returning to Hawaii settled in Ookala and
worked diligently for 34 years with Hamakua Sugar Company; and
WHEREAS, Masami Nagasako was known to be a champion fighter among the
laborers in the sugar industry in which he fought to preserve the rights of each
and every worker; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his 30 years of service as an officer for the
ILWU, former Police Commission Chairman, volunteer fire fighter, past president
of the Laupahoehoe Senior Citizen, auditor for the Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission,
Ookala Precinct Democratic Party Chairman, Ookala Precinct Election Chairman,
past member of the State Health Planning Development Agency, past member of the
North Hilo Traffic Safety Committee and as an active participant to the other
numerous organizations and activities within the community, Masami Nagasako was
respected for his outstanding and effective leadership throughout the many years
of his unselfish dedication; and
WHEREAS, while Masami Nagasako will be greatly missed, his contributions
to the community will long be remembered by the many lives he so positively
influenced and by his compassion and knowledge which he so unselfishly shared.
NOW, THEREFORE BE I'P RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it extends its condolences and deepest sympathy to his wife,
Mrs. Yoshino Nagasako, and his family.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a
true copy of this resolution to Mrs. Yoshino Nagasako.
Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 5th day of June , 1991.

RE: Condolence Resolution for Masami "Naga" Nagasako
Pursuant to Section 1(d) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of
the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is
submitted in regards to Resolution No. 332 , relating to
Mr. Masami "Naga" Nagasako waiving said referral from the
Committee on Human Services and Recreation, in order that
appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed
advisable that such waiver be granted.
