Baclig Sr., former director of the Hawaii County Band, fondly known as "Music Man," as well as "Professor," and "Maestro," passed away on March 5, 1992 at the age of 92; and WHEREAS, three days later Mr. Baclig's beloved wife Lucille C. Baclig also passed away at the age of 7fi; and IslandersEREaSdanceeband with MrrmBacligcasgbandleader and Mrs. Baclig as vocalist, which became one of the most popular bands on the Big Island; and WHEREAS, Mr. Baclig's music background began in the Philippines where, as bandmaster, he conducted dance bands on cruise ships in Hong K„ng, Japan, Panama and Canada; and WHEREAS, since his arrival in Hawaii in 1926, Mr. Baclig spent most of his life on the Big Island, where he was a plantation band organizer and director, Filipino community leader, businessman, educator, court and police interpreter, Filipino radio language program personality and salesman; and WHEREAS, during his 55 years as a Big Islander, Mr. Baclig-was the recipient of many awards and honors among which were the first recipient of the statewide Filipino Council's "living treasure award," and for his 50 years of contributions to Hawaii and the Big Island; and WHEREAS, Mr. Baclig's long and successful career enriched the lives of numerous Big Islanders; and WHEREAS, since their marriage in 1939 Mr. & Mrs. Baclig's music and contributions towards the enrichment of our island's cultural life will long be remembered. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this opportunity to acknowledge their sincerest mahalo and appreciation for the many contributions bestowed upon the residents of the Big Island by Mr. .Andres A. Baclig Sr. and Mrs. Lucille C. Baclig and extends its deepest sympathy and condolence to the Baclig family. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit true pies of this resolution to M• Andy Baclig, Jr., Reverend timothy Baclig, Ms. Arlene Ho; , and Ms. Carol Bissen.
