RESOLUTION No. 436 92

WHEREAS, the Council is aware that the Waikoloa Hyatt Regency,
due to economic hardship, is considering the suspension of its
employee bus subsidy program; and
WHEREAS, the Council is concerned that the curtailment of the
five bus routes will force employees to seek alternative
transportation modes to their employment center; and
WHEREAS, inevitably, said alternative will result in an
increase in vehicular traffic on the Hawaii Belt Highway; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that it is in the public's safety
interest that any traffic increase be kept to a minimum; and
WHEREAS, the Council has been informed that the transportation
needs can be met with the addition of three bus routes between
Waikoloa and Hilo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it supports the addition of three bus routes between
Waikoloa and Hilo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following amount be and is
hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
Honorable Lorraine R. Inouye, Mayor, Mr. William Takaba, Director of
Finance, Mr. Steven Shinchi, Mass Transit Administrator and
Ms. Noelani Whittington, Executive Director, Kohala Coast Resort
Association.
