RESOLUTION No. 45 9~_
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is aware of the needed
promotional requirements to foster a healthy visitor industry; and
WHEREAS, the designation of visitors to the Big Island is
essential for continued growth of our economy; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Visitors Bureau and the State of Hawaii
will promote Hawaii at the World's Fair in Seville, Spain; and
WHEREAS, the Big island will be represented by eight (8)
participants of the 1992 Merrie Monarch Hula Festival; and
WHEREAS, promotional funds are needed to support the
participants; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City fund balance of $20,000 is designated
for promotion of goodwill with other cities; and
WHEREAS, the visibility for the Big Island will be 400,000
people during the ten (10) days from August 26, 1992 to September 4,
1992.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that $20,000 be transferred out and from the General Fund
Clerk-Council Misc. Cont Serv Account No. 010-101-5101.02-115,
designated for the Sister Cities, and appropriate said funds and
credit same to the County of Hawaii Department of Research and
Development's Tourism Promotion Miscellaneous Charges Account
No. 010-161-5161.60-341.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these funds be used by
representatives of the Big Island for promotion of tourism for the
Big Island at the World's Fair in Seville, Spain.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
transmitted to the Department of Research and Developent, Department
of Finance, and the Hawaii Visitors Bureau.
