COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION N0. 499 92 WHEREAS, the people of the North Hawaii community are in need of a health care facility in Waimea; and WHEREAS, North Hawaii Community Hospital Inc. (NHCH) has recently completed a draft for a Certificate of Need (CON) and is seeking approval from the State Health Planning and Development Agency (SHPDA) to proceed with construction of the hospital; and WHEREAS, NHCH will dramatically improve the health status and quality of care foc the people of North Hawaii by having available to the community a consolidation of acute care services in one geographically centralized location, including pre-natal and obstetric care currently unavailable in the entire service area; and WHEREAS, emergency and trauma care will be more accessible for those residents of North Hawaii who are currently more than an hour from critical care services; and WHEREAS, the NHCH health care facility will also enhance the native Hawaiians values, beliefs, and culture by allowing the people to practice Ola Lapaau, Hawaiian health care. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that we are in total support of the request for approval on North Hawaii Community Hospital's Certificate of Need for a health care facility in Waimea. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to The Honorable Lorraine R. Inouye, Mayor, County of Hawaii; Mr. Earl E. Bakken, President, Board of Directors for NHCH; and Ms. Kina'u Royd Kamali'i, Administrator for the State Health Planning & Levelopment Agency. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 1Qth day of AuQUSt , 1992.
