RESOLUTION No. -503 Sit
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii has adopted, after
three readings on separate days and by the affirmative vote of no
less than two-thirds of its entire membership, an ordinance to amend
the Hawaii County Charter; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance provides that councilmembers shall serve
for a term of four years which shall not be co-terminous with the
term of the mayor; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance further provides that a councilmember
shall not be elected for more than three consecutive terms; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance has been signed by the mayor and has
been designated as Hawaii County Ordinance 92-80; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 15-2 of Article XV of the Hawaii
County Charter, as amended, upon adoption of an ordinance proposing
amendments or revisions of the charter, the council shall provide by
resolution that the proposed amendment be submitted to the electors
of the county for approval at the next general election; and
WHEREAS, Section 15-2 of the Hawaii County Charter further
provides that the full text of the proposed amendments or revisions
be published in at least two daily newspapers of general circulation
in the county at least forty-five days prior to submission to the
the electors of the county; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 11-119(b) of the Hawaii Revised
Statutes, the exact wording to appear thereon, including, but not
limited to, questions and issues shall be submitted to the chief
election officer of the state no later than 4:30 p.m. on the
sixtieth calendar day prior to the applicable election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it hereby directs the Clerk of the County of Hawaii to
take the necessary steps as provided for in Article XV, Section 15-2
of the Hawaii County Charter, as amended, and submit the charter
amendments as proposed by Hawaii County Ordinance 92-80 to the
electors of the county at the next general election.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to
the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Hawaii and to the Clerk of
the County of Hawaii.

RE: Charter Amendments on Council Terms
Pursuant to Section 1(d) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of
the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is
submitted in regards to Resolution No. 503 , relating to
Charter Amendments on Council Terms, waiving said referral from
the Committee on Finance in order that appropriate action can be
taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed
advisable that such waiver be granted.
