RESOLUTION N0.
WHEREAS, Mr. William Reich, better known as "Bill
Reich", a perennial activist and inveterate writer, died on
Saturday, August 29, 1992 at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reich was an esteemed leader of our
community, whose knowledge, involvement and interest in
government, politics, agriculture, and economic development
made him an invaluable resource to all who consulted him; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reich's background as an activist for
peace and justice, a retired high school principal, labor
organizer and news paper editor cultivated within him dynamic
leadership skills which have left indelible impressions upon
those who were fortunate to have been associated with him; and
WHEREAS, since his arrival in Hawaii he was actively
involved in the State Democratic Party, Peoples Fund,
Conservation Council, Media Advisory Council, Silver
Legislation on behalf of Hawaii's Senior Citizens, a recipient
of the 1991 Hawaii County Outstanding Senior Citizens award,
Shoreline Protection Committee, Malu Aina, Ka la hui and the
Big Island Rainforest Action Group and initiated the Hawaii
County Nuclear Free Zone Ordinance in 1981; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reich embodied the essence of a "public
servant", never ceasing to give untiringly and unselfishly of
his time and energy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it recognizes the outstanding
contributions made by Mr. Reich in enhancing the quality of
life for all the people of Hawaii County and that it extends
its deepest sympathy and condolences to his daughter Ms. Mary
Louise Henry, his grandson Mr. James G. Henry, his sister
Ms. Lillian P1cClellan and the rest of his family.
BE I'P FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County
of Hawaii transmit true copies of this resolution to Ms. Mary
Louise Henry, Mr. James G. Henry and Ms. Lillian [9cClellan.

RE: Resolution Regarding the Passing of William Reich
Pursuant to Section 1(d) of rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the
Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is submitted
in regards to Resolution No. 519 , relating to the passing
of William Reich waiving said referral from the Committee on Public
Works in order that appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable
that such waiver be granted.
