HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 521 Draft 01 1988-1992COUNTY OF HAWAN `- 'STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION N0. 52'~ ~2 WHEREAS, divorce is a stressful time for both children and parents; and WHEREAS, recent research by Wallerstein and Alakeslee described in Second Chances, shows that a large proportion of the children of divorce enter into adulthood as worried, underachieving, self-deprecating, and sometimes angry men and women; and WHEREAS, children from single parent households are much more likely to appear as law violators in juvenile court; and WHEREAS, parents can prevent some of the difficulties that divorce brings for their children if they receive basic information about what to do and what not to do during the divorce process; and WHEREAS, non-custodial parents can greatly contribute to the well-being of their children if they stay involved as parents; and WHEREAS, programs on Oahu and Maui now provide information to parents ahout how to best help their children through the divorce process; and WHEREAS, these programs have been very well received by both parents and children; and WHEREAS, a similar program is needed for the Third Judicial Circuit which will require all parents and children, aged six (6) through eighteen (18), to go through a program as part of the divorce process in the County of Hawaii. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OE THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it hereby supports any action by the State of Hawaii to provide monies to the Family Court of the Third Circuit for a divorce seminar f.or parents and minor children involved in the divorce process. BE IT FURTHER RF.SOhVED that the Clerk of County of Hawaii send copies of this resolution to the Honorable John Waihee, Governor of the State of Hawaii, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and to each member of Hawaii's legislative delegation.
