HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 528 Draft 01 1988-1992~'~°: ~~ COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION N0. 52tg ~2 WHEREAS, Mr. Joe Mattos, a lifetime resident of North Kohala will be retiring this year as Head Coach of Kohala High School Varsity Basketball team; and WHEREAS, Joe has unselfishly devoted a total of 18 years of service to the people of the Kohala Community as Junior Varsity Coach, Assistant Varsity Coach and Head Varsity Coach for the Kohala High School Basketball team; and WHEREAS, during the years beginning in 1972 through 1992, Joe led the varsity basketball team to nine North Division titles, with participation in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, the BIIF and State Tournaments, capturing two BIIF titles and one year as runner-up; and WHEREAS, Joe's tireless efforts has given the Kohala Community a sense of pride, and the children a sense of accomplishment, a lifetime gift that they will be able to carry with them even when their path leads them away from their home; and WHEREAS, Joe and his wife Helen (Hanano) Mattos has blessed us with three wonderful sons, Wendell, Howard, and Wesley who, like their father, are making great contributions to the society working in the County Road Department in Kohala, the United States Department of Health and Human Services in San Francisco, and the Hawaii County Fire Department in Kohala; and WHEREAS, we would like to express our gratitude to a man who has given so much of himself for the benefit. of our children. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that we honor Mr. Joe Mattos upon his retirement as the Head Varsity Coach for the Kohala High School Basketball team and that we wish him well in his future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a true copy of this resolution be transmitted to Mr. Joe Mattos. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 7th day of October 1992. LAI Re: Resolution honoring Mr. Joseph Mattos upon his retirement as coach of the Kohala High School Basketball Team Pursuant to Section 1(d) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to Resolution No. 528 relating to honoring Mr. Joseph Mattos upon his retirement after 18 years of coaching the Kohala High School Basketball team, waiving said referral from the Committee on Public Works in order that appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
