WHEREAS, prior to the arrival of foreign people and their
implied regulations, the lands of Kaloko-Honokohau Makai
survived in Hawaiian cultural practices; and
WHEREAS, all lands of

WHEREAS, the Pai family have for more than three hundred
years, educated generations of their family members in
preserving the values and architectural heritage of the
Kaloko-Honokohau area; and
WHEREAS, the future caring for this land could be
continued by the Pai family who have been responsible for the
retention of its cultural preservation for years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the National Park acknowledge the years of
Pai families and their respectable position in attendance of
this Kaloko-Honokohau Makai properties and insure their ability
to perform as caring bodies to enhance the cultural preservation
and proper presentation of these valued lands and all the
history they possess to all who visit Kaloko-Honokohau National
Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be directed
to forward true copies of this Resolution to The Pai Family; The
Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, United States Senator; The Honorable
Daniel K. Akaka, United States Senator; The Honorable
Patsy T. Mink, United States Representative; The Honorable
Neil Abercrombie, United States Representative; and
G. Bryan Harry, Director, National Park Service Pacific Area.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be directed
to forward true copies of this Resolution to The Pai Family; The
Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, United States Senator; The Honorable
