To Create A Consumer E cation Website Designed to Help Hawaii Residents
Reduce Their Energy U age and Costs.
This communication requests the Department of Research and Development (R&D) to present an
overview of the consumer education website, pursuant to Resolution No. 795-08.
Resolution 795-08, as adopted on December 17, 2008, called upon the department of R & D to
create a consumer education website to include the following:
1) Energy usage calculations for major types of appliances calculated to October 2008
HELCO rates;
2) Links to government sites regarding auto fuel efficiency, with some Hawaii Island
specific examples of how to calculate the yearly costs of fuel for various vehicles;
3) Energy-saving practices for homeowners;
4) Articles on solar hot water and solar electric systems for the home;
5) A link to the County's Hele On taus website to encourage use of public transport;
6) Updates on important energy-related legislation that has passed at the county, state,
and federal level; and
7) Other relevant energy-related information or links.
The requested update per Resolution 795-08 was to be made by June 30, 2009. Please place this
presentation on the appropriate July 21, 2009 Council Committee agenda.
