Resolution
WHEREAS, the campus of Waimea Elementary and Intermediate
School, situated in Kamuela, is adequate in land area to
accommodate facilities and grounds at the present school
enrollment; and
WHEREAS, the present physical plant may well serve the school
for many years to come, however, the campus is surrounded on three
sides by Parker Ranch property which would eventually stymie
expansion when the need occurs; and
WHEREAS, there are similar situations in the Waimea area where
Parker Ranch and the State of Hawaii could benefit by exchanging
adjacent property to each others mutual benefit; and
WHEREAS, principals of the Ranch may be agreeable to exchange
that 12-acre parcel abutting the campus identified by
TMK: 6-7-02:17 with comparable land elsewhere in the Waimea area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it wholeheartedly supports a land exchange between
Parker Ranch and the State which would benefit both parties and
serve the public interest.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to send copies of this Resolution to Mr. Richard
Smart, owner of Parker Ranch, Mr. Susumu Ono, Chairman of the
Board of Land and Natural Resources, Senators Dante K. Carpenter,
Richard Henderson, and Malama Solomon; Representatives Herbert A.
Segawa, Andrew Levin, Virginia Isbell, Yoshito Takamine, and
Richard M. Matsuura.
