HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 548 Draft 01 1980-1984 County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, pursuant to County Charter Section 3-14 interim amendments to the Salary Ordinance may be by resolution; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Salary Ordinance is hereby amended for the following department: SECTION 8.14' (d). OPERATIONS DIVISION. DEPARTMENT OF WATER SUPPLY. 1. Retitle one position of Water Meter and Automotive Mechanic WB-9 to Water Meter Mechanic WB-9. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the departments of Water Supply, Finance and Civil Service for their information. No. RESOLUTION NO .~D`~~ 8:.~i ~ r . • -l.J ~J 8.370 DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL SERVICE COUNTY OF HAWAII WATER METER MECHANIC Duties Summary: Inspects,. adjusts, installs, removes, repairs and tests a variety of water meters in the shop or in the field; makes minor repairs to other mechanical equipment; and performs other duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from that of Water Meter Mechanic Helper in that the Water Meter Mechanic performs skilled work in the inspection, maintenance, repair, and testing of water meters and related equipment; whereas the Water Meter Mechanic Helper assists in the inspection, maintenance, repair and testing of water meters and related equipment. Illustrative Examples of Work: Inspects, disassembles, cleans, repairs, adjusts and tests a variety of water meters, recording registers, gate valves, cheek valves and .f ire hydrants; conducts flow tests of water systems and pump facilities; performs minor mechanical repairs of gasoline, pneumatic or electrically-driven equipment and tools; explains flow test procedures, meter operations and malfunctions to customers; maintains an inventory of meter and hydrant parts and special tools; estimates time, material, equipment in repairing and testing a variety of meters and related equipment; recommends improvements on meters and fire hydrants to supervisors; maintains records; and prepares work reports. Minimum Qualification Requirements: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to completion of the 8th grade and two years of experience in work involving the repair and maintenance of water meters or other recording instruments and the maintenance and repair of waterworks equipment such as fire hydrants and valves, one of which shall have involved repair and maintenance work in the central meter shop. Knowledge of: methods, tools, equipment parts and materials used in testing and repairing water meters; principles underlying operation and construction of water meters; hydraulics as it relates to flow rate and water pressure; some theory and principle of the internal combustion engine; some principles of electricity as applied to the electrical systems of automotive equipment; methods, tools, equipment and materials of the mechanic trade; occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. 1 .. 1 Water Meter Mechanic ~ -2- Ability to: Perform skilled repair, inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and installation of meters used in water systems; operate power equipment and tools used in repairing and testing meters and in mechanic trade; keep accurate records; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
