WHEREAS, Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School will be
embarking on its Centennial Anniversary through the weekend of
April 30, 1983; and
WHEREAS, Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School had its
beginnings in 1883 as a three -classroom school in the prospering
town of Laupahoehoe Point; and
WHEREAS, Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School, became a
solid educational cornerstone for surrounding communities and
served the feeder schools of Ookala, Kapehu and John M. Ross; and
WHEREAS, from the tragedies of the 1941 flooding and the fatal
tidal wave of 1946, the spirit of Laupahoehoe Schools remains a
testimony of resolution end hope; and
WHEREAS, the numerous achievements and honors bestowed upon
Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School attest to the character of
those passing through the portals of learning and are demonstrated
by the successful pursuits of its graduates in their walks of life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its congratulations and best wishes to the
Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School faculty and alumni as it
celebrates its 100th Anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it expresses appreciation for the
school's invaluable contributions to the local community and to
our system of education over the last one hundred years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this Resolution to ter. Wayne Kanemoto,
Principal, Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School and Mr. Harry
Yamanaka, Centennial Chairman, Laupahoehoe, Hawaii.
