Resolution
WHEREAS, the Language Arts Multicultural Program (LAMP) is one
of many programs being conducted by the Hawaii County Economic
Opportunity Council (HCEOC); and
WHEREAS, the LAMP program assists the public schools in the
improvement of language arts skills for culturally disadvantaged
third and fourth grade students to the level appropriate with
their respective ages and grades; and
WHEREAS, the LAMP program currently offers services to five
schools in the County of Hawaii; namely, Kohala, Pahala, Hookena,
Kalanianaole and Kapiolani; and
WHEREAS, the majority of LAMP funds have come from the State's
General Fund; and
WHEREAS, the HCEOC has submitted its program budget request of
$195,234 for the fiscal year 1983-84 and $210,328 for the fiscal
year 1984-85 to the Department of Education.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognizes the valuable contributions of this
program in aiding our culturally disadvantaged third and fourth
grade students and their parents in achieving success in the
educational system and becoming successful contributing members of
our society.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council requests the State
Department of Education to continue its funding of this much
needed educational program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this Resolution to Mr. William A. K. Waters,
Chairman, Board of Education; Dr. Donnis H. Thompson,
Superintendent of Education; Dr. Kiyoto Mizuba, Hawaii District
Superintendent; and Mr. George Yokoyama, Hawaii County Economic
Opportunity Council.
