WHEf~EAS, the annals of recent Hawaiian history embrace the names of men
and waTen wha have emerged from the humble existence of plantation life to
become cuitstanding leaders in their fields; and
WHEREAS, included among the wanks of these outstanding .individt3als is the
Current saninr member of the Twelfth Lr-.gisJ.ature, State Repr<!sentative Yoshito
Takamine; and
WHEREAS, as the eldest sdn of J3 children, he began working on the
plantation saon after graduation from Honokaa High School to heJ.p his
struggling immigrant parents; and
Wi£REAS, because wages then were still measured in cents per day and life
an the plantation Was hard and difficult, Yoshito became involved with the
.labor mavement as a means of improving the living conditions of the ~xarkers
which eventually ted him into politics when, in 1959, he ran for and was
elected to the Hamakua District seat of the State House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, clue lamely to Yoshito's efforts as the fornrer Chairman of the
House Committee on Employment Opportunities & Labor Relations, significant
progress was made in improving Hawaii's J.abor laws; and
WHEREAS, as the current Chairmsn of the House Agricultural Committee,
Yoshito is naw in a positian to address the more pressing problems of
preserving our best farm lands and maintaining agriculture as a viable part of
the State's economic future: and
WHEREAS, after nearly 25 years in elective office, YosF~ito is basically
the same honest and sincere champion of the working man that he was in 1.959
alien first elected.
NOW, ThEREFORE, ~ IT RESOLVED 6Y THE COUNCIL OF TFF f.0lkWTY OF 1~AWAII that
it takes this maans to extend i.ts warmest congratui.ati.ons to YoshS.to Takamine
for his recent election to his Lth consecutive term to the State House of
Representatives and for his respected status as the senior member of the
7welftlr Legislature.

as a State Legislator.
