RESOLUTION N0. ~~~ ~
VtHEREAS, the University of Hawaii. at Manoa Women's Volleyball
Team recently participated in the finals of the 1982 National
Collegiate Athletic Association, Division I, women's volleyball
championships at Alex ~. Soanos Center on the University of the
Pacifir. campus in Stockton, California; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious tournament Por the nati.nnal title
brought together two former titleholders, two-time defending
champion University of Southern California, against the University
of Hawaii's Rafnbo~v Wahines who earned Hawaii's first national
sports championship in 1979; and
WHEREAS, this match-uo p.itted the scorer,-long top-rated
Rainbow Wahines against Southern California who For two years had
spoiled Hawaii's hopes of a national championship; end
WHEREAS, the Rainbow Wahine's stunning recovery from a
two-game deficit to sweep three successive wins for an amaain,g
14-1E, 9-15, 15-13, i5-i0, 15-12 tournament victory proved the
quality and ability oi' these cohesive young women athletes whm
brought pride to themselves, their coaches, their school and the
people of Hawaii.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAIZ that it extends its congratulations to the Women's National
Volleybell,Champion Rainbow Wahines, their coaches and staff.
F3E IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this Resolution to team
members; Deitre Collins, Niulii Heine, Susan Hlavenka,
Joyce Kaapuni, Candy Kane, Ohua Mahoe, Sista Palakiko, Lee Ann
Pestana, Kori Pulaski., Kris Pulaski, Lisa Strand, Roblynn {Missy)
Yomes and Marcie blurts; Head Coach Dave Shoji; Assistant Coach
Dean Nowack; Student Assistants Nahaku Brawn and Diane Sebastian;
Trainer taelody Toth; Assistant Athletic Director and Director of
Women's Sports Cynthia J. eoerner and Dr. Fujio Matsuda,
President, University of Hawaii.
