HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 513 Draft 01 1980-1984_. ~ Q County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the O1d.Waimea Courthouse which was erected in the 1870's and served as the community center, a courthouse, a tax collection office, and the State and County Building, has now been replaced by a new facility within the Waimea Civic Center; and WHEREAS, this old courthouse is rich with historical values and lores, having been the site of many of waimea's memorable community events and was the training grounds for the island's provisional army in the 1890's; and WHEREAS, it had an important function in years past, it is desired that the building be now converted to a more meaningful and appropriate use as a community center, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that it endorses the present effort to include this landmark building on the Hawaii Historical Register as duly recommended by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 23rd Convention held on November 11-13, 1982. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to remit copies of this resolution to Governor George R. Ariyoshi, Susumu Ono, Chairman and Member, Department of Land and Natural Resources; Richard Paglinawan, Chairman of the Hawaii Historic Places Review Board; Benson Lee, President of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs; and Elaine Flores, President of the Waimea Hawaiian Civic Club.
