RESOLUTION NO. 479 82
WHEREAS, Shigeru K. Oda, affectionately known as S. Kto Big
islanders, will be publicly honored by the people of Hawaii County
at a testimonial given in his honor on November 5, 1582; and
WHEREAS, the testimonial. given by S. K.'s many friends will Lie
in recognition of his many accomplishments as a builder and his
efforts in promoting the Big Island flower, and tourist industries;
and
WHEREAS, for over fifty years, the initials S. K. were
.synonymous with the development of the Big Island as evidenced by
the many landmark features scattered throughout the island that
once carried the familiar S. K. Oda, Ltd. banner; and
WHEREAS, among the most notable of these projects are the Hilo
High School Auditorium, County Library Building in Hilo, State of
Hawaii Office Building, Hawaii County Building and the•Haweii
Volcanoes National Park Information Center; and
'WHEREAS, as one of very few kamasinas to receive the
prestigious Order of Sacred Treasurer, Fifth Class from the
Emperor of Japan, S. K., "The Builder", can take pride in the
knowledge that he has made an indelible mark here at home on the
Pig Island and in Japan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 11 RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it joins Jig Islanders in honoring Shigeru K. Oda for
his many contributions toward the development and promotion of our
beautiful. Island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby proclaims
November 5, 11982, as "S. K. Day" in the County of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a true copy of this Resolution be
presented to Shigeru K. Oda during his testimonial on November 5,
1982.
