HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 478 Draft 01 1980-1984 County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the senior citizens of Waimea, one of the very few communities without a Senior Center, have waited patiently for over ten years for an adequate facility in which to conduct their activities; and WHEREAS, the Senior Center that is proposed for the Waimea Park area will satisfy their needs, however, is still far from becoming reality; and WHEREAS, the State in the May 10, 1982 CIP Newsletter announced the release of $25,000 for the preservation of the old Waimea District Courthouse which would ideally serve as a temporary multi-purpose Senior Center. NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it supports the temporary use of the Waimea District Courthouse as a Center for the senior citizens of Waimea until such time as their permanent facility is completed, and urges Governor George R. Ariyoshi and Chairman Susumu Ono of the Board of Land and Natural Resources to consider making this building temporarily available for use by these elderly citizens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State be urged to coordinate its preservation efforts with Hawaii County's Office of Aging in maintaining a functional facility suitable for senior citizen programming. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable George R. Ariyoshi, Governor; Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi; Mr. Susumu Ono, Chairman, Board of Land and Natural Resources; and to Mr. Nick Oducado, President of the Waimea Senior Citizens Club. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 17th day of November 1982.
