Lew, Executive Director, Hawaii Committee for the Humanities, dated December 4, 1996, informing they have recently awarded seven grants totaling $86,264 to non-profit organizations in support of humanities projects for the public, as listed. Also informs that HCH, a private, tax-exempt organization which receives funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and regrants these funds locally in support of public educational projects in the Humanities, has applied for and received a Focus Grant of $25,000 from the Research and Education Division of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Submits information on their elected officers and members. Comm. 55: REAPPOINTMENTS TO THE COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN CAROL HENDRICKS AND JUNE Y SHIBUYA From Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 23, 1996, informing he has reappointed Carol Hendricks of Waimea and June Y. Shibuya of Keaau, to serve on the Committee on the Status of Women co-terminus with his tenure ending on December 4, 2000. (These reappointments do not need Council approval.) Comm. 55.01: From Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated January 7, 1997, informing that the reappointments to the Committee on the Status of Women's terms, as contained in Communication 55 should have read ending December 31, 2000. HS/EDC-1 Page 2 January 21, 1997 Comm. 95: OVERALL SCOPE AND GOALS OF THE COMMITTEE ON HUMAN SERVICES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT From John Ray, Chair, Committee on Human Servies and Economic Development, dated January 9, 1997, stating the need to discuss the above in terms of economic development. States discussion on the scheduling and procedure for evaluating and awarding the non-profit grants for the 1997-1998 fiscal year is needed.
