County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii is committed to the goal of
energy self-sufficiency through the exploration and development of
its valuable energy resources; and
WHEREAS, the Council recognizes that these natural resources
must be properly managed and developed to benefit the County of
Hawaii as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that there is a need to examine the
extent and scope of local government involvement in energy
resource management and development; and
WHEREAS, the Council has earmarked a sum of $30,000 for
alternate energy resource study in its effort to propose and
advance prudent legislation that is in the best interests of the
County of Hawaii.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it establishes a committee consisting of the Mayor and
five councilmembers to: (1) identify the nature and scope of a
feasibility study to create a municipal energy agency that will
manage and develop the County's natural resources, (2) recommend
an independent consultant(s) to conduct the study, and (3) submit
its recommendations to the Council for approval.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit a true copy of this resolution to Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi.
