In the past., the Kona Hospital.Basic Life .Support (BLS) emergency unit, has provided these services in the Kealakekua .Area; however, by 1981 ambulance staffing shortages at the Kona Hospital resulted in the need.for.the Hawaii County Fire Department, through its Captain Cook ' unit, to become established on a voluntary basis in order tp provide BLS emergency ambulance services 24. hours a day, 7 days a week. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from that of [ssistant Clerk-Typist in that the Clerk-Typi-st performs a variety of tasks involving referral to a nwnber of different sources, executes assignments in accordance with general instructions, accomplishes work with some use of discretion 2nd selectiveness >n deviating from established processes and procedures, and operates a typewriter in typing materials where improvisation as to format and arrangcrnent of data is required; whereas the iLssistant Clerk-Typist performs routine, repetitive tasks which are primarily procedural in nature, executes assignments in accordance with specific instructions or clearly defined procedures, and operates a typewriter in typing materials trhere guides as to format and arrangement of data are readily availa- ble. Distinfvishin~ Characteristics: This class differs from that of Assistant Acco.rnt Clerk in that the Account Clerl; independently' performs account recordlceepirg work not covered by prescribed procedures and requiring judgment in interpreting procedures and regulations; whereas the Assistant Account Cleric performs account recordkeeping rorork covered by detailed procedures and where supervision is readily available. This class differs from that of Senior Account Clerk in-that the Account Clerk independently performs account recordkeeping work not covered by.prescribed procedures and may supervise the wor}: of others; whereas the Senior Account Clerk supervises or perfozr,:s the reviewing, posting, revising and surimarizing of fiscal reccrds and statements with responsibility for the maintenance of a major ser_tion of an accounting system.
