County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Hawaii 'County Council finds that the Hawaii
Island Chamber of Commerce, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Hawaii, the Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce, and the
Hawaii Island Contractor's Association have jointly established a
position urging an accelerated State take-over of our Saddle Road;
and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii, recognizing
objectives of integrating our distinctive communities of East and
West Hawaii into a unified county, concur with the Chambers and
the Hawaii Contractor's Association that an improved major highway
between these communities is most desirable; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii has gone on
formal record expressing support for a cross-island highway; and
WHEREAS, the Council believes that this position supporting a
cross-island highway should be promulgated in the General Plan as
a positive course of action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges the Administration to consider for inclusion
in its ten-year General Plan review, support for a cross-island
highway.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Herbert T.
Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii and to Mr. Sidney Fuke,
Planning Director.
