WHEREAS, the recent- passing of I~1acy Wahineokalani Sylva Lee,
the Molokai Kupuna, known as "Aunty Mary", will leave a void in
the hearts of Hawaiians and tawaiians at heart; and
WHEREAS, "Aunty Mary" served as a spirited and cultural guide
to Iiawaiian rights movements including Hui Alaloa and Frotect
Kahoolawe Uhana; and
iiHEKEAS, "Aunty Mary" influenced young Hawaiians of these
groups in the proper ~aay to bridge the cultural past sad present;
and
WIiEREAS, her involvement in community life will be missed by
residents of Hawaii in general and resi<}eats of Molokai in
particular.
NOW, THIrKEE'ORE, IsE IT RESOLVLD BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CUUiVT'Y OF'
HAWAII that residents of Hawaii County extend their sympathy to
the relatives of "Aunty Mary" and also bear appreciaCion for the
cultural and spiritual benefits that she contributed to all
Hawaiians.
i'sE IT FURT'HEK RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to. the family
of the late "Aunty Mary" Wahineokaani Sylva Lee to serve as a
memorial to someone whose life touched us all.
