HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 444 Draft 01 1980-1984-~~ 0 0 RESOLUTION NO. ~~4 82 WHEREAS, the Hilo Community Players, in'cooperation with the Department of Parks and Recreation, Culture and Arts Division, the Department of Publie Works, and the East Hawaii Cultural Council, and with the support, in part, by a grant from the State , Foundation on Culture and the Arts, have successfully completed a Fifth Annual Shakespeare play in downtown Hilo's Ralakaua Park with the presentation of a critically acclaimed production of "Hamlet", without charge to the people of Hilo; and WHEREAS, the casting, by director Peter Schickler, of John Roch of New York City in the title role of Aamlet provided the production with a magnificent performance of William Shakespeare's favorite character and provided the cast with an inspirational lead and an opportunity to work with a professional-actor; and WHEREAS, John Roch is an instructor of vocal development for singers and actors at his private studio in New York City; an active member of the American Guild of Musical Artist's with a B.A. in Music from Rent State University and a Master's in Music from the University of Illinois; and a nationally recognized master of the art of stage make-up having received a grant for that purpose in 1978 from the National Opera Institute and having served as a make-up artist for several regional opera companies; and WHEREAS, John Roch took an unpaid vacation fradn his professional practice in New York City to travel, at his own expense, to play the role of Hamlet without compensation; anil•has offered worksh.p courses in acting, voice, and make-up to all.interested persons' in the community; and WHEREAS, the Hilo Community Players; the cast of "Hamlet"; Peter Schickler, director of~the "Hamlet" production and John xoch, who so well acted the part of Hamlet, have culturally enriched the , community of Hilo. nes. No......_..,.._.._ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to congratulate the Hilo Community Players•for having presented a Fifth Annual Shakespeare- in-the~Park summer production Peter Schickler for undertaking the successful direction of the play, "Hamlet"; and John Koch for the volunteer of his time and talent involved in his excellent portrayal of Hamlet. HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of. Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to Paul Mark Clark, President of the Hilo Community Players, Peter Schickler; John Koch! Evelyn Fujiwara, Culture and Arts Coordinator, Department of Parks and Recreation; Edward Harada, Chief Engineer, Department of Public Works; Frances Sherrard, Chairperson of the East Hawaii Cultural Council; and Sarah Richards, Executive Director, State Foundation on Culture and Arts.
