RESOLUTION NO. `~~~ ~~
WF[F.REAS, the 24th Annual Hawaiian International Billfish
Tournament, founded by Peter Fithian, Chairman of the Board of
Governors of the Hawaiian International Billfish Association, will
be held in Kona from August 13 to 22, 1982; an~
WHEREAS, the Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a
parade on Sunday, August 15, in which merchants, schools, organiza-
tions, military units, the Hawaii and F[amakua County Rards, and
visiting fishing teams from foreign countries will participate; and
WHEREAS, the parade will have Mr. George Naope of Hilo as the
Grand Marshall for Hawaii and Sir William A. Stevenson, K.B.E.,
internationally known sportsman of New Zealand, as International
Grand riarshall; and
[+7FIEREAS, flags from the 20 foreign countries and the United States
representing the teams in the competition, will be raised during the
Opening Ceremonies in Kailua Village following the parade; and
F:HERFsAS, seventy-four teams from 20 foreign countries, the .
mainland United States and Hawaii will be competing for trophies; and
64HE12EAS, the International Tournament and the IQational Tournament
which takes place a week earlier from August 6 to 13 will attract some
10,000 persons to Fiona and the Big Island during the "Billfish 47eeks".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF TF[F. COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its mahalo and gratitude to the officers and
members of the Hawaii International Billfish Association, the Kona
Coast Chamber of Commerce and to the hundreds of volunteers for
bringing this 24th Annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament
to the Big Island.
BE IT FUP.'PHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County o£ Hawaii be
directed to remit a copy of this resolution to Feter Fithian, Chairman;
to the members of the Board of Governors from the Big Island, Lewis T.
Sterry, President; Stanley Hara, Ken Michael, Alton C. Penrose, Gordon
L. Bartsch, FIanl: Hart and Philip D. Parker and to Executive Director
James W. Sutherland.
