RESOLUTION NO. `~~5 Q~
WHEREP.S, at the annual luncheon meeting of the Hawaii Joint
Council on Economic Education held at the Prince 'uhio Hotel in
Honolulu, Peter Volpe, asocial studies teacher at Pahala High
and Elementary School, was honored as one of the top "Economic
Teachers of the Year"; and
YJHEREAS, as a Peace `Corps 'Volunteer at Pepeekeo where he qot
some of his initial training, Peter visited the Pahala area
frequently prior to his assignment in the Philippines; and
4diIEREAS, in 1969 when he began teaching at Pahala, in wanting
to make his course in consumer education meaningful to his students,
he had them visit various supermarkets to do an analysis and evalua-
tion of the quality, quantity and Brice of_ commmdities sold, and had
them develop their conurercial sales technique by actually video-
taping a sales presentation, then having the participants do a
self-evaluation; and
PifiEREAS, this creative experience made the students conscious
of making correct decisions at the marl:et place as purchaser of
commodities or dealing with many Financial institutions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its hearty congratulations to Feter Volpe for
being honored as one of the top seven "Economic ?'eachers of the Year"
by the Hawaii Joint Council on Economic Education.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed. to remit a true copy of this resolution to Peter Volpe
and to Stephen Jackstadt, Director of the Hawaii Joint Council on
Economic Education.
