County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, Space Services, Inca, (S.S.I.) is interested in the
South Point area of Ka'u as the site of a launching facility for
its commercial space satellite operations; and
WHEREAS, S.S.I. is considering the South Point area amongst
a number of other possible sites; and
WHEREAS, S.S.I.'s project would provide Ka'u and the Island of
Hawaii with new skilled job opportunities; and
WHEREAS, 50 to 60 jobs would be held by residents of the Ka'u
District and the Big Island during the first five years of operations;
and
WHEREAS, S.S.I.'s satellite launchings may give the~Big Island
worldwide recognition as a highly capable community fully prepared
to enter the future; and
WHEREAS, S.S.I's project can provide alternative economic
development to the current economic problem areas of sugar and
tourism facing the Island of Hawaii. '
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it hereby encourages Space Services, Inc., to seriously
consider locating its launch facility at South Point, Ka'u, on the
Island of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Cierk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed 'to remit true copies of this resolution to
Mayor Herbert Matayoshi and to the Office of Space Services, Inc.
