WHEREAS, the Hilo Chapter
celebrates its 75th anniversary
July 24, 1982, with a series of
a festive luau; and
of the Ahahui Kaahumanu
of its founding on Sat
activities, highlights
WHEREAS, the Ahahui Kaahumanu Society was named aft th
illustrious Queen Kaahumanu who instituted many reforms
improvements to the laws and lifestyles of the Hawaiian pe •'e
and laid the groundwork for this esteemed organization's goals
which are (1) to seek friendly relations among its members,
(2) to provide assistance in times of need, (3) to perpetuate
the spoken and written Hawaiian language, and (4) to observe
the appropriate Hawaiian holidays, including attending mandatory
services preceding the observance of Kamehameha Day; and
WHEREAS, in conjunction orith this anniversary's festivities,
several longtime members were recognized for their valued services
and contributions rendered to the Society and the community,
namely, Lizzie Watson, the only living charter member; Violet
Nathaniel, former vice president and president, and member of
the Chapter for 72 years; and Maraea-Hendershot and Mary Kuamoo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends congratulations to the Hilo Chapter
of the Ahahui Kaahumanu Society on the successful observance of
their 75th anniversary and wishes them continued success in all
of their worthy endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be instructed to remit true copies of this Resolution
to Mrs. Elizabeth Beck, President; and to the honorees Lizzy
Watson, Violet Nathaniel, Mary Kuamoo and Maraea Hendershot.
