RESOLUTION N0. ~8~ ~~
WHEREAS, Mr. Melvin Miranda, Manager of Hualalai Ranch,
displayed exemplary moral courage, fortitude and'.character by
testifying as a key witness for the prosecution in a recent trial in
Hilo; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miranda, as a bystander who witnessed an assault,
reported the incident to the police and later, testified at a
sentencing hearing which resulted in a jail sentence for the
assailant; and
WHEREAS, there are several slogans and programs relative to
keeping Hawaii, our Home, a paradise to be proud of; and
WHEREAS, an important way that we can all share in keeping
Hawaii beautiful is through good citizenship, to cast apathy aside
by reporting crimes we see and assisting others when a situation
warrants; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miranda's willingness to testify without personal
regard about "getting involved" displays the ultirtiate in good
citizenship, and it reflects very favorably upon all Big Island
residents, his family and himself.
NOW, THEREFORE, DE IT RESOLVED 8Y THE COUFlCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it congratulates Mr. Melvin Miranda for his
unselfishness and praiseworthy moral courage to render assistance to
another human being by summoning the police and testifying in a
court of law to correct a potential injustice.
BE IT FURTHER RESULVED, that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit a true copy of this Resolution to Mr. Melvin Miranda.
