Resolution
WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed its
final EIS on the Paauau Stream Flood Control project; and
WHEREAS, this project, generally consisting of some 1,492 feet
of concrete rubble masonry (CRM) flood wall, a 295-foot levee, and
some 1,420 cy of concrete and boulder concrete is designed to
protect against flooding and erosion of residential property along
the banks of the Paauau Stream at Pahala, Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, this project, estimated by the Corps of Engineers at
$1.325 million and includes a non-federal share of $100,000, has a
favorable benefit-cost ratio and poses a minimal and a temporary
environmental impact; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is in concurrence
with the final EIS on the Paauau Stream by the Corps of Engineers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges final acceptance of the Corps of Engineers
Paauau Stream Flood Control EIS and that authorization be granted to
implement this project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to Colonel Alfred J. Thiede,
District Engineer, Corps of Engineers and to Mr. Edward Harada,
Chief Engineer, County of Hawaii.
