Resolution
WHEREAS, rural telephone subscriber listings in the Hawaii
Telephone Directory are usually limited to the subscriber's name and
locale, as compared with their urban counterpart, who usually has a
name with street and number, which constitutes an essentially
"complete" mai-ling address; and `

WHEREAS, wth.the advent of the U. S. Postal Service converting
to automation, the necessity for complete, properly addressed mail
becomes more crucial to everyone relying on timely mail service; and
WHEREAS, approximately 50 percent of the telephone subscribers
live in rural areas and thus, need a handy reference for finding
complete mailing addresses, and the telephone directory is the best
reference to accomplish this end.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges the Hawaiian Telephone Company to allow its
subscribers, free of charge, to change their listings in the
directory so that mailing addresses will be more readily known to
correspondents.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the change should include a post
office box number, general delivery, or rural highway contract route
designation and box number for those subscribers who live in rural
locales and who request the change.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit copies of this Resolution to Mr. Tom Yamada, Island Manager of
the Hawaiian Telephone Company and Mr. Albert Tom, Chairman, Public
Utilities Commission.
