RESOLUTION N0. d~2 ~~
WHEREAS, six Big Island Girl Scouts have been invited to
participate in the Canadian Girl Guide's "Serendipity '83", which
will take place July 20 to August 20, at Camp Olave located in
Vancouver, British Columbia; and
WHEREAS, this opportunity was created by the late Miyoko Hori, a
former clerk of the Hilo Girl Scout office for forty years, who had
previously befriended a visiting Canadian Girl Guide (Canadian Girl
Scout) with warmth and aloha and nurtured this relationship into the
camaraderie that exists today between the Big Island and Canadian
girl scout movement; and
WHEREAS, the six fortunate representatives were chosen by a
panel of judges who deemed these young ladies as the best qualified
to represent the girl scouts and the Island of Hawaii at the
prestigious gathering of Girl Guides from all over Canada; and
WHEREAS, the main purpose of the visitation will be the sharing
of family life in Canada with host families and later to share these
experiences with sister girl scouts on the Big Island; and
WHEREAS, the funding of this endeavor will come from a
scholarship fund started in 1980 in memory of Miyoko Hori and
augmented with a variety of fund raising projects planned by the
Girl Scouts.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends congratulations to these fortunate and
deserving Girl Scouts for being selected to partake in the Canadian
Girl Guide's "Serendipity '83" and wish them a safe and meaningful
trip.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to Girl Scouts
Malia Horigan; Amy Kalili; Diane Martin; Laura McGregor; Toni Shull;
Maile Simmons; their adult volunteer leader, Janice Kaaloa; Field
Director, Alberta Dobba; and Lorraine Inouye, Program/Trainer of the
Girl Scout Council of the Pacific, Inc.
Dared at Hilo, Hawaii, this 6th day of July, 1983.
