RESOLUTION N0. ~~~ ~~
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce completed another
successful year with the installation of its new officers and
directors on Saturday, June 25, 1983; and
WHEREAS, for the past year, this respected organization of
business leaders of our.., community has ,been led by
Mr. Walt Southward, a long time civic minded individual; and
WHEREAS, under his guidance, the Chamber became forthright,
articulate and consequently more effective in stating the views and
concerns of the business community; and
WHEREAS, this "high profile" posture of the Chamber resulted
from the recent losses of several major businesses and other
potentially adverse actions or situations detrimental to the
economic well-being of this Big Island.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it commends Mr. Walt Southward, for under his determined
and effective leadership the Chamber was able to focus on a timely
basis the concerns of the business community for the purposes of
information, deliberation and hopefully a successful resolve.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to
Mr. Walt Southward, past president and Mr. Richard West in-coming
president of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, with the
Council's wishes for continued communication and participation in
helping to make our community a better place to live.
