RESOLUTION N0. ~~~' 8.~
WHEREAS, the annual election and installation of officers and
directors of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce took place on
Saturday, June 25, 1983, and was highlighted with the seating of
Mr. Richard W. West as its new President; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed organization, containing a membership of
approximately four hundred business oriented people, committed and
involved towards the economic well-being of our island community is
presently faced with existing and new challenges, requiring sound
leadership and a unity of purpose, for the effective addressing of
these concerns; and
WHEREAS, President West, a respected banking executive and his
team of officers and directors are well versed and experienced on
the economic conditions of the county and can contribute invaluable
input in assisting the state and local governmental policy makers in
resolving these parameters of mutual interest and responsibility; and
WHEREAS, the cooperation of government and the private sector is
essential for the betterment and stabilization of our economic
status, and with President West's pronouncement that the business
community will take a more agressive role in the affairs of the
community, will improve the avenues of communications and therefore
enhance the attainment of a favorable economic climate for our
deserving people.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it congratulates the in-coming officers and directors of
the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and commends them on their
positive goals intended to produce a healthy economy beneficial to
all of our people.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to President
Richard N. West and his Board of Directors, along with the Council's
wishes for a successful tenure.
