HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 658 Draft 01 1980-1984. ~~'~ RESOLUTION N0. ~S8 S3 WHEREAS, thirteen faculty and staff members in the University of Hawaii system have been chosen by their students and peers for excellence in teaching, research and distinguished service for 1983; and WHEREAS, for their distinguished service they received the bronze Regent's Medal and $1,000 from the University of Hawaii Foundation, a non-profit organization; and WHEREAS, UHHC Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Lawrence L. Heintz was nominated by his peers and students at Hilo College for the Excellence in Teaching Award; and WHEREAS, the sentiments of those who nominated Professor Heintz for the award best describe his qualifications as follows: "Professor Heintz's knowledge and understanding of the fields of study which he teaches are exceptional. He is always well prepared for his classes, making it a point to thoroughly research the materials for each period. His discussion of the course topic is in-depth, allowing students to gain a clear understanding of the facts and principles involved." "Where philosophical issues are often abstract and surely difficult to relay with clarity to one's students, Dr. Heintz has consistently demonstrated his ability and talent in his teaching." "Beside his obvious intellectual competence, Professor Heintz has a rapport with his students that few other teachers can match. No. nat~: _......~UL_..._6 1983 .. 4 ~ ~ ~`~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to Lawrence L. Heintz, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hawaii Hilo College, for receiving the nomination for Excellence in Teaching Award from his peers and students at UHHC and for being named one of the thirteen finalists who received the award statewide, for distinguished service to the University system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to Assistant Professor Lawrence L. Heintz.
