HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 657 Draft 01 1980-1984... o a RESOLUTION NO. s`J"r ~+.3 WHEREAS, thirteen faculty and staff members in the University of Hawaii system have been chosen by their students and peers for excellence in teaching, research and distinguished service; and WHEREAS, for their distinguished service they received the bronze Regent's Medal and $1,000 from the University of Hawaii Foundation, a non-profit organization; and WHEREAS, Mamie A. Shafer, an instructor in the Business Education and Affiliated Programs at Hawaii Community College (HCC) was nominated by her peers and students for the Excellence in Teaching Award which reads in part, "quality teaching, dedication to students, and an unfailing commitment to the University," making it possible for her to be one of the thirteen finalists; and WHEREAS, Mamie received a BBA degree from Loyola University of the South in New Orleans, earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and came to the Hawaii Technical School (now HCC) in 1962, as an instructor. In addition, she has attended numerous computing and word processing courses and kept up with business related programs; and WHEREAS, Mamie played a major role in the Education Division at HCC during her tenure as Division Chairman for 1971-76 which covered courses and programs in data processing, real estate, insurance, and hotel/motel operations; and File No. t1T. O O WHEREAS, Mamie, as a member of the University community has been very active as faculty advisor, UHH Council member, Title III Committee, Higher-Education Management Institute, Student Conduct Committee, Future Secretaries Association,. and Professional Secretaries International. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to Mamie A. Shaffer, for receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award from her students and the faculty at HCC and for being named one of the thirteen finalists who received the statewide award for distinguished service to the University system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit a true copy of the resolution to Mamie A. Shaffer. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 6th day of July, 1983.
