'6~~ ~~ WHEREAS, in conjunction with the observance of the 85th Anniversary of Philippine independence, the Sampaguita Club held its 3rd Annual pageant, and Miss Melanie Ann Martines was selected as the 1983-84 Junior t4iss Sampaguita; and WHEREAS, this culturally oriented pageant was conceived to encourage the education of the Filipinos especially the youth in order that they would be better equipped to advance themselves to contribute to the progress of the communities in which they reside, and to promote, preserve and perpetuate the Filipino culture through music, song and dance; and WHEREAS, this years festivities reflected well of these purposes and provided an entertaining evening, culminated with the deserved crowning of Melanie Ann Martines the new reigning queen; and WHEREAS, Miss Martines a Junior to be at Laupahoehoe High,School was chosen after a keen competition and was named Miss Congeniality and also won the gown competition on the way to her victory. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends congratulations to Miss Melanie Ann Martines for being selected as the 1983-84 Junior Miss Sampaguita and wishes hex continued success in her education and future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to transmit copies of this resolution to Miss Melanie Ann Martines, her parents Michael and Pearl Martines; President of the Sampaguita Club, Jaime Tomas, Principal of Laupahoehoe School, Wayne Kanemoto; her sponsors Sports N'Stuff, Inc.; Papaaloa Community Store, Inc.; Louis and Fusako Martines; Aloha Otto Part-Hilo, Inc.; Mr. & Mrs. Delbert Costa and Mid-Pacific Airlines.
